When I was a kid, there weren't lots of jobs about that would both pay well and treat you respectfully. Just imagine being a 14-15 year old, with a decent amount of brains and a fraction of an inch of credible-ness under your belt. You will be really likely to be underpaid and worse yet under-valued.
What will that mean in terms of the job market? Simply put, junk food. I made a measly wage, put in the maximum amount of hours, and endured fryer baskets on a regular basis. Now, granted, I'd been young and foolish and believed that since I was making cash, what did it matter just what I did with fryer baskets or perhaps with plastic spatulas so long as I was bringing home earnings.
Not sure if that truly rings true. Right at that moment, I hated this. It was hot and uncomfortable near the deep fryer basket and the cooking surfaces, I got little to no social interaction, and the hours were far long. And yet, I managed to find out about the real environment through that encounter. I learned that things do not always come quick; you have to truly work at it often to live through it. To endure is always to discover and grow.
Now, in spite of all the 'life lessons' morality plays, I also stumbled on some findings about myself after a few years of reflecting about the experience. It's not conceit when I say that I'm better than that job. I am light-years in front of it, nevertheless of course is the experience component coming into play. I'm no longer fifteen years of age and praying for a position - any job.
I've come a long way since the fryer basket days, and I've discovered a thing or 2 more about the world and ways to succeed without having to burn yourself creating food for unknown people. It doesn't have to be a struggle to do the things you love at the same time still maintaining your individuality. The factor is, I never would have gotten here if I hadn't been there.
